There is a local sponsorship scheme available to Ukrainian Nationals who do not have ties in the UK. This visa scheme is on a sponsorship basis whereby Ukrainian Nationals will only need their passports to apply on-line. A step forward.
The sponsorship scheme for Ukrainian Nationals
The government has announced plans for a new sponsorship scheme for Ukrainian Nationals without any family ties to the UK. The scheme will allow UK sponsors, such as communities, private sponsors and local authorities, to bring those to the UK who have been displaced by the current unrest.
There will be no cap on this scheme, the UK wants to welcome as many Ukrainians as wish to come. Therefore it is upon the communities of Britain, private sponsors and local authorities to provide the sponsorship which will enable our friends to come here.
Those who come under this scheme will also be granted leave for an initial period of 12 months and will be able to work and access public services.
The government will work closely with international partners and neighbouring countries on the scheme to ensure displaced Ukrainians are supported to apply.
The Home Office will also make sure that those who want to sponsor an individual or family can volunteer and be matched quickly with Ukrainians in need, working closely with the devolved administrations and local authorities across the country.
Further details on the scheme for sponsors and Ukrainians will be published in due course, including information on how people and organisations in the UK can apply to be sponsors.
We will update this post as and when the new guidance has been released.
