Important Changes to UK Visa Regulations: A Summary
There have been some significant updates to UK visa regulations, impacting various categories of applicants. Here’s a breakdown of the key changes:
1. Restrictions for Social Care Workers:
- Social care workers can no longer bring their families (partners and children) with them on their visas. This rule came into effect on March 11, 2024.
2. Increased Salary Requirements for Skilled Worker Visas:
- The minimum salary threshold for the Skilled Worker visa has risen significantly, from £26,200 to £38,700 per year. This change took effect on April 4, 2024.
- Additionally, the minimum salary requirements for specific jobs within the Skilled Worker category have also increased.
3. Revamped Shortage Occupation List:
- The Shortage Occupation List has been replaced with a shorter “Immigration Salary List.” This list identifies jobs where sponsoring employers can offer lower salaries than the standard minimum. The new list is subject to revision later in 2024.
4. Higher Income Threshold for Spouse/Partner Visas:
- The minimum income required to sponsor a spouse or partner for a visa has increased from £18,600 to £29,000 per year. This change came into effect on April 11, 2024. There are plans for further increases throughout 2024 and into 2025.
5. Graduate Visa Under Review:
- The Graduate visa, a two-year post-study work permit, is currently being reviewed by the Home Office. A report with recommendations is expected by May 14, 2024.
Additional Points to Note:
- These changes are intended to reduce overall immigration levels in the UK.
- Existing visa holders and those who applied before the rule changes are generally not affected by the new salary thresholds.
- Transitional arrangements exist for those applying for spouse/partner visa extensions if their initial application was submitted before April 11, 2024.
Stay tuned for further updates on the Graduate visa review and potential future changes.
